Faribault Planning Commission approves data center standards goes to City Council Nov 24 (Rice County)

The Faribault Daily News reports…

In front of a packed room, the Faribault planning commission voted unanimously to approve the data center standards it developed over eight work sessions. Recommendations will now be presented to the Faribault City Council at a meeting on Nov. 24.

If passed, this would make a conditional use permit mandatory for any data center in Faribault. This allows the city to set and enforce standards before and after a developer moves into town. Data centers are fully permitted in town right now, meaning there are no specific regulations that are possible to enforce until these recommendations are approved.
