I’m really excited about the following conference. I have a kid who has started using Khan Academy – her observation is that she learns a lot from the videos and her tutor (my dad) confirms that she has a good grasp on when and how to use math theorems. But she says it doesn’t help her with the test because the test isn’t measuring if you understand or know when to use theorems.
What I see is so many great tools – many mentioned below – yet her test looks just like mine did – a generation ago. And just like my dad’s did – two generations ago. So I’m excited to learn about what’s happening on with technology leadership but also want to ask when the technology is going to trickle down to the front lines! And once/if schools change the method for evaluation, how will that impact the industry.
EDUTECH 2014 SHOWCASE AND FORUM: CELEBRATING MINNESOTA’S EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP
From its beginning in 1971, with the development of the Oregon Trail computer game and its initial release by the Minnesota Educational Computer Consortium (MECC) in 1974, to the present, Minnesota’s education technology industry connects educators (school and workplace), entrepreneurs, investors, and community resources to foster a $1B cluster, from start-up to NYSE traded companies. The Edutech 2014 Showcase and Forum will bring together Minnesota’s edutech industry cluster; it will include: Minnesota EduTech sector company recognition, New Education Technology Showcases, a Venture Academy Case Study (A Gates Foundation funded Next Generation Learning Challenge charter School – one of 22 national pilot sites) and a Keynote Address: “Technology & Learning – A Global View.” Dr. Cobo, Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University brings his multi-continent experience to both his research and the insights he will share with us.
EduTech – the third wave of the technology revolution is here – let’s celebrate and continue our innovation heritage! And, let’s – learn how education, technology and entrepreneurship partner to support new approaches to “closing the achievement gap” and fostering workplace innovation.
