Long before Blandin Foundation had a blog, we had a video contest for Get Broadband communities. To make a medium story short – several rural communities in Minnesota got digital video cameras; Blandin got great videos that highlighted how each community was promoting or using broadband.
Some were pretty specific to the project; some are more general broadband stories. I thought I’d share a few:
Sleepy Eye
Tells the story of a high school student who is able to attend classes online and take care of her brother with muscular dystrophy and the owner of a small business
Cohasset
Cohasset features an auto body shops and impact broadband has had on their business. They have been able to transmit photos to insurance companies, find online manuals and manufacturer diagrams and attend remote training.
Fosston
Fosston told the story demonstrating the impact of broadband on healthcare through a mock accident and use of teleradiology.
Cambridge
Cambridge featured their program where business owners got support – both training and financial to create or improve corporate web sites.
Benton County Broadband Video
Benton recorded a series of broadband ads to run on local television stations.
Edge of Wilderness
The Edge of Wilderness created a video that highlighted some of the broadband projects in the area includes using broadband to stay in touch, as an ABE teacher, use in the public computer center and highlights from community tech fair.
Five Small Towns
The Five Small Towns video gives a tour of the city web sites.
We just started a new Blandin on Broadband YouTube channel. So you can check out more of our videos there – most of the videos were taken at last year’s Blandin broadband conference.
