MN 1st Congressional District race faces questions about AI-generated ads

KTTC reports…

The race for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District is facing questions over alleged altered imagery in a campaign ad.

Last week, KTTC reported on potential legal issues raised over an image featured in a reelection ad for Republican Rep. Brad Finstad. The image shows DFL candidate Jake Johnson alongside Gov. Tim Walz, noting Walz’s endorsement of Johnson.

Johnson’s campaign says the image is fake and was likely AI-generated. …

A proven deep fake election-related violation is a crime, with a conviction carrying possible fines and prison time.

Finstad chimes in…

Finstad called the situation laughable, saying Johnson is “afraid of the fact that him and Tim Walz are good buddies.”

The second-term congressman said he wasn’t concerned about any potential consequences.

The ad continues to air, with Finstad saying he has no plan to remove it.
