FCC considers allowing more political robocalls before midterms, including AI calls

Faribault Daily News reports…

The Federal Communications Commission is considering a request to loosen rules on political robocalls, including those with AI-generated voices. Current federal law bans most robocalls to cellphones without prior consent. The Republican-led FCC has advanced the petition for public comment and could rule on it by late October. Consumer advocacy groups warn this change could lead to a surge of unwanted, partisan and potentially misleading automated calls before this year’s midterm elections. The Club for Growth, the conservative group seeking the change, argues it could improve voter communication and polling accuracy.
