Thanks to Karl Samp for the update on broadband adoption activities in Lake County (a Blandin Broadband Community)…
On Tuesday, the Lake County Steering Committee met at Superior Shores, following a very well attended and successful, Senior Health and Technology event, partially funded by BCBP.
Internet training classes continue to be well attended, and well received. To date more than 200 individuals have taken BCBP funded classes, with nearly 400 class attendees taking advantage of the training. One of the highlights is the intergenerational connections being made between high school students and their elders at the training, as the youth provide one on one assistance during the classes. The intergenerational connections have led to more activities. For example, the students helping at the area food shelf. Nice work, Jan and Kris. There was a clear desire to keep meeting after the Blandin grant period ends.
Community WiFi sites are being identified, and committee members who will contact them are being determined.
Work will soon begin on the community portal, and the Chamber and County, will be working closely as that project begins.
Finally, last but not least in importance, fiber is in at Silver Bay, and the first customers recently went on line!
