A criticism of technology is that it is changing the way people interact and driving out the age of face-to-face interaction. The organizations featured in this webinar saw this “faceless” interaction as potential to build digital communities that bridge geographical boundaries. The Art of the Rural has created an open source Rural Arts and Culture Map that allows any user to upload video, audio, photography, and text to tell their own rural narrative. Taos Health Systems, Inc. (on behalf of the Southwest Rural Policy Network) is launching the Rural Southwest Digital Community Center – an online space for nonprofits and community organizations to share resources, stories, and events in order to drive policy and reduce redundancy. These projects connect organizations and individuals across the region and the country to produce a shared vision.

Featured panelists:

Matthew Fluharty, Director, The Art of the Rural

Rita O’Connell, Communications Director, Taos Health Systems, Inc.

Joyce Hospodar, Manager, Health Systems Development, Center for Rural Health, Zuckerman College of Public Health, University of Arizona
