The following article caught my eye for a couple of reasons – 25 Cool Things Kids Can Learn to do Online (For Free). First, I have kids who are out of school and need to be entertained. Second, if I can entertain while they learn – all the better. I thought I might not be alone in that pursuit. But also I think these activities would be great for any digital literacy group. Most activities are a nice blend of online and offline action.
I’m going to include just a couple of my favorites from the list:
- Play the Star Wars theme on piano
Beginning pianists will love adding this to their repertoire. – I love this because it can start a great habit of learning music through YouTube. I have heard stories from several professionals about going this route! - Invest in stocks and shares
Soon, kids might be teaching Mom and Dad a thing or two about money. – Best question I ever got as a Reference Librarian at the College of St Catherine – “My dad gave me $500 to invest but I have to choose the stock. How can I do it?” It’s a great skill to have - Deal with feeling angry
A step-by-step guide to getting through strong emotions. Who doesn’t need this one?! - Concoct ice cream in a bag
It’s hot out, but this is cool — and tasty. Who doesn’t want this?!
