New broadband maps: MN well above average

OK I don’t really know how above average we are – but by judging by what I can see from the map, we are doing definitely better than the South, probably not as well as the East and would probably make good competition for the West (especially if you take Coconino County, Arizona off the map).

The map tracks broadband subscribership – putting US subscribership at 60 percent. The nice thing about the maps is that it tracks subscriber with demographics factors (population, income, poverty, education, race). The actual map is interactive – and very easy to use. What I don’t love about the map is that they define broadband as 768Kbps download / 200Kbps upload; the standard used by the Federal Communications Commission’s Form 477 data.
