Folks in Lake County are pretty excited with the prospect of broadband in their area. According to the Lake County News Chronicle, “The overall response was excellent,” said Chris Swanson, at a Lake County Board meeting this week. “They (Lake County residents) are very supportive of the project.”
It sounds as if the average Lake County resident pays $122 per month for Internet, TV and phone services. National Public Broadband, the folks who are implementing the broadband plan, feel they can beat that price.
I would’ve loved to explore a P/P partnership here to open the door to the rest of the county.
The average cost is actually $147.00 for all three products. Thanks to Chris Swanson for sending me the updated number!
Zach,
I got the following info from John Schultz at National Public Broadband:
We are looking to serve the entire county, in this type of a project we look for an average number of subscribers passed per mile. By evening it out across the entire county then we can reach the customers that a typical privately owned entity might not go after. But I would never say no to a suggestion regarding a partnership and the like. That would just be silly not to look at it.
