Thanks to Ruth Solie of Northern Lights Library Network for giving me the heads up on this great project by the Minnesota Public Libraries – 23 Things on a Stick. It’s a fun, self-directed tutorial on how to use a number of Web 2.0 tools.
If you have ever wanted to take the time to start a blog, post vacation pictures, upload your PowerPoint presentation using or more this is a hand-holding tool that will help. Best of all it helps on your own time but it gives you homework that prompts you to prove you did it.
I started it last week on my own blog. OK I’m hung up on the first task, creating a Yahoo Avatar. But truly I think it’s my computer – I got it to work on my husband’s but can’t kick the kids of his computer long enough to finish the task.
Anyone can lurk around the event. It looks like official participation is limited to folks related to libraries, but I think they’re pretty loose with their definition. If you really want to participate and don’t have a library affiliation, please let me know and I’ll hook you up. If you decide to participate – please let me know.
What’s the tie in with broadband? For anyone who’s wondered, “What would I do with all of that bandwidth anyway?” Check out some of these great free tools and I’m sure you’ll find something that will hook you.
