Southwest Minnesota Broadband Services fiber update

The Jackson County Pilot ran a quick update on the Southwest Minnesota Broadband Services (aka Southwest Minnesota Broadband Group) late last week. SMBS is working on an ARRA-funded project to expand fiber around Windom. Last week the board met in Heron Lake to discuss business.

According to the article it sounds as if the project is on track…

In regard to network progress, [U-Reka Broadband Service’s John] Schultz said the engineering phase is nearly completed and the plan is still to complete installation within all member communities by the end of 2011. He also added the project’s website, www.swmbg.com, will keep people informed of progress and bi-weekly emails are planned to keep this information fresh and up-to-date.
