Qwest expands Fiber Network

Thanks to Bill Coleman for sending me the update on Qwest’s proposed fiber upgrade (Qwest posts profit, promises fiber upgrade). And thanks to Gary Fields for sending me another article on the same topic (Qwest to Spend up to $300M on FTTN).

The good news:
It seems as though Qwest is going to invest $300 million to pass an additional 1.5 million homes with its fiber-to-the-node network. Through the network, Qwest will deliver more than 20 Mbit/s in bandwidth to each home on this network. It looks as if Qwuest may be considering IPTV over their lines – although that news isn’t coming from Qwest. In fact they say they are sticking with DirecTV.

The bad news:
Qwest shares dropped more than 13 percent last week, despite a $2 billion profit for the third quarter.
