I am doing the annual look at broadband in each county – based on maps from the Office of Broadband Development and news gathered from the last year.
Le Sueur broadband ranking has dropped from 16 to 31 but there is some discrepancy in their numbers it looks as if the percentage served has dropped. That may just be a sign of problems with the maps.
Last year, Eckles Telephone got a border to border grant to serve 51 unserved households, seven unserved businesses, 40 underserved households, and four underserved businesses in the rural Heidelberg area. Mediacom has announced upgrades to customers in their areas (Cleveland, Kasota, Lake Jefferson, Le Sueur, Montgomery).
This year Le Sueur has been working on a market survey of access and need in the county. And at the 2018 Minnesota Broadband Conference, Le Sueur will get a chance to workshop a feasibility study with attending consultants.
Info on Access:
| Speeds | % served 2017 | % served 2018 |
| 25/3 | 90.39 | 72.68 |
| 100/20 | 82.78 | 70.65 |
The speeds reflect the Minnesota speed goals:
- 25 Mbps down and 3 up by 2022
- 100 Mbps down and 20 up by 2026
Current ranking for 100/20 access: 31
