I am doing the annual look at broadband in each county – based on maps from the Office of Broadband Development and news gathered from the last year.
Carver County ranking has moved up from 17 to 18. One of the advantages they have is Carvernet, a network of dark fiber. One potential concern is that their coverage for 25/3 is good and might open the door to losing interest in improvement but the recent incremental improvement allays that concern at least somewhat.
Info on Access:
Speeds | % served 2017 | % served 2018 |
25/3 | 98.51 | 89.81 |
100/20 | 81.04 | 85.09 |
The speeds reflect the Minnesota speed goals:
- 25 Mbps down and 3 up by 2022
- 100 Mbps down and 20 up by 2026
Current ranking for 100/20 access: 17
