Four in Five of All U.S. Adults Go Online

Thanks to Ann Higgins for sending the article that reported that “Four in Five of All U.S. Adults Go Online”. I also thought it was interesting that the average time spent online is 11 hours a week. (Sadly I think I probably get that in an average day – and I suspect most of the Blandin on Broadband blog readers are the same.)

The average person online is starting to look more and more like the average person. I thought it might be fun to look at some of the other current Internet stats to see what folks are doing online. Here are some of the random stats I found:

Fewer people are booking travel online, according to a research company. I thought this was surprising but then I realized that I don’t book my tickets online. (Though I research my options online.) (Read more)

More than eight in 10 Internet users also do some offline activity while online – nearly three out of five Internet users watched television while online. Again that’s me – I think that it’s a sign of how everyday and all the time the Internet has become. (Read more)

Marketers report that only 7.75% of their online marketing spending goes into Web 2.0. (Read more)

91 percent of online Americans send or read email.
71 percent have bought a product
56 percent watch a video clip or listen to an audio clip
43 percent do online banking
33 percent watch a video on a video-sharing site like YouTube
28 percent categorize or tag online content like a photo, news story or blog post (Read more)
