OK I’ve been in Dublin for almost 2 weeks. We ordered broadband within 2 hours of landing. They said it would take 5-10 days to install – apparently they need to do something special because the house has a security system.
Well it’s still not here!
So, I’ve been working at the library. All of the libraries in Dublin close from 1-2:00 for lunch. They are usually open about 6 hours a day – when they are open. Well, I generally work more than 6 hours. There are no Internet cafes or coffee shops near us. We’re not really in a rural area – but we’re out that way.
Today my local library is closed so I walked 30 minutes to get to the next library. It’s a nice library but they are repairing the roof. I can here the pounding and the blow torch as I work. A while ago a little piece of ceiling landed on my laptop!
I have a whole new passion for the importance of broadband. You’ll pardon my language but not having ready access sucks! My kids are going through withdrawal. They rarely get to check email and neither has been on Webkinz since we got here. They are worried that the YouTube trends are passing them by.
Did I mention that Skype was/is our long distance plan? Well, they frown on making phone calls in the library – so I have been completely out of reach by phone.
They say that the broadband will be up and running tomorrow. If not, you might hear me crying in MN!
