Data privacy, social media & employers (HF1196) bill held for inclusion in House

Broadband is more that infrastructure – it’s about use and sometimes misuse. Legislation was introduced to provide online protection to employees and potentials employees:

HF1196  Applicant and employee’s personal usernames and passwords protected from access by employers, and civil enforcement provided.

I happened to capture the brief discussion in the Judiciary Finance and Civil Law Division. On the whole everyone seemed pretty amenable to the bill and it was held for possible inclusion in a larger bill.

Listening to the questions in a hearing like this gives a glimpse at the levels of technology understanding in the room – who are users and who are not.
