Hormel hopes to nudge Google Gig to Austin MN

Here’s the news from the Channel 6 in Austin MN

The Hormel Foundation officially announced its endorsement for “We Gig It!”. This is the effort to bring a ultra high-speed fiber optic internet connection to Austin, MN.

It’s the last line that really caught my attention…

Austin is currently in the top 5 cities in the running for this [Google’s project] high speed internet. An announcement is expected sometime early in 2011.

I’ve heard a few people allude to March as a guestimate as to when Google might make an announcement. I suspect that really only Google knows.
